Re Eternal-September: without registering and using a chosen unique 
username and a password, you are restricted to only about eight E-S 
support groups. They are intended for first-timers. For all the rest of 
Usenet (many thousands of groups), you must use your account ID including 
the password.

That would be so.

E-S is unlike these giganews-hosted Mozilla groups, where no account ID 
and password is required. Is that perhaps what you meant, instead of E-S?
