I have recently upgraded my OpSys from WinXP 3 to Win7 on a Compaq dxw2450.
I have adequate backups (Acronis) and most of my programs on several partitions
that did not change. I have a lot of personal stuff on lists, Local Folders,
that I have saved on backup and would like to get this stuff available on WIN7.
Search on WIN7 is different from search on WinXP and I can't find out where to
put the stuff to be transferred to Win7.

Other major problem so far is that my old scanner won't work on Win7,
completely different situation.

You may want to start lurking at:

Win7 is difficult to use until you get used to it.
It may take several years. Trusted Installer will keep
popping up until it completely trusts you.
Basically, you can put stuff where 7 LETS you put stuff.
Few people like 7 search. I disabled mine.
Install SearchEverything. Its many times faster
and can do a lot more. It's very small.
I deleted all the libraries except the default user one.
I also deleted all the Aero junk.
Check out Classic Desktop. It makes 7 look and work
like XP as much as possible. I like it.
