I have recently upgraded my OpSys from WinXP 3 to Win7 on a Compaq dxw2450.
I have adequate backups (Acronis) and most of my programs on several partitions
that did not change. I have a lot of personal stuff on lists, Local Folders,
that I have saved on backup and would like to get this stuff available on WIN7.
Search on WIN7 is different from search on WinXP and I can't find out where to
put the stuff to be transferred to Win7.
Other major problem so far is that my old scanner won't work on Win7,
completely different situation.
Enter %appdata% (if that gets mangled, PERCENTappdataPERCENT) in the
'Run Program' box. I'm running Linux at the moment and have a German
Win7 anyway so this won't be completely accurate, but the 'Run Program'
box is 'Start' and then 3/4 of the way down on the left.
This opens Windows Explorer in the Application Data tree. From there
you go down to 'mozilla', 'seamonkey' and so on. I'd tend to
copy->paste your original profile there and then make it your default.
%appdata% also works under XP, something I only discovered when backing
up for an upgrade to a new machine.
I really don't see the point in making Win7 look like XP but that is
because I have Win7 at work as well. Why customise Win7 to death when
at some point you will be confronted by Win7 somewhere else or by Win8?
YMMV.
