There's already one slight difference -- the little popup message in the
Windows tray includes the account name. I forget the exact wording, but
it's something like "<account name> has new messages."

Unfortunately it lies. I have a number of unread messages
in my Plusnet account, as a result of which no matter into
which account the new e-mail arrives, I am told there is
new Plusnet mail :-(

Interesting, but not my experience.

I've been watching since I posted that, and the formula is "<account name> has nn new message(s)." I have unread messages in three of my four accounts, and when new messages are received, I do see the various account names according to which one just got new mail, and the counts of new messages since the last report are accurate.

The only thing that's weird is that when the Junk Mail Control feature moves messages to Junk without marking them as read (that's what I've told it to do), those are still included in the count of new messages. So I can sometimes have "new messages" reported when the Inbox is empty because they've all been diagnosed as junk.
