According to WinUp history, last updates were installed August 16, well

If "WinUp" = "Windows Update",

Yes...

I have more recent updates on 20th, 21st and 25th inst.

Install dates would depend on when you last ran the program, and also on your version of Windows (available updates vary from version to version). I have Win7 Pro SP1 (64-bit), and WinUp reports no new updates available since the 16th. That list included KB2596856, KB2732500, KB2729094, KB2732487, KB2647753, KB982726, KB2553272, KB2598287, KB2597986, KB2553260, KB2722913, KB2598289,KB2705219, KB2596615, KB2731847, KB2712808, KB2589322, and KB890830.

The point is, the trouble didn't start just after a Windows Update, it took more than a week. So I think I can exclude WinUp as the cause.
