I'll have to reinstall 2.12 when I can get to it. I hope I have a different 
result. In 2.12 one thing that still works in Menu Editor 1.2.3.3 is 
choosing which menu headers to display. (you have to modify install.rdf to 
get it to install in 2.12).

In the very early SeaMonkey days, you had to modify jar files to move GUI 
icons around, and poke around the internet for appropriate changes to 
userchrome.css to modify other visual features. That's about where we are 
with menu text, if Mr. Bergsagel's suggestion doesn't pan out - still at the 
very beginning.
