I just decided to update from Seamonkey 1.1.19 but, after reading that
there have been problems trying to upgrade directly to 2.12, I decided
to follow the advise posted here to upgrade to 2.0.14 first. It did
indeed find and migrate my hundreds of bookmarks, 10 email accounts with
thousands of messages and, surprisingly, all of my IDs and passwords.
After the update to 2.0.14 completed I clicked on Help > Check For
Updates. To my surprise Seamonkey automatically updated to 2.6.1 instead
of 2.12.
After the 2.6.1 update completed I again clicked on Help > Check for
Updates and this time Seamonkey was automatically updated to 2.12.
Again, my hundreds of bookmarks, 10 email accounts with thousands of
messages and, all of my IDs and passwords are still intact
One of the reasons I held off updating to 2.x was the complexities of
the directories I had data spread over. It seems that the 'staged'
updates resolved the data location mapping without a problem. I am
curious as to what the outcome would have been had I tried to update
directly from SM 1.1.19 to SM 2.12.
Stan, I'm pretty sure you aren't able to go directly from SM 1.x.x to SM
2.12, because some of the file formats changed (e.g. SM 1's
Bookmarks.html became SM 2.12's places.sqlite) but some of the file
formats stayed (e.g. SM 1's mail inbox is still SM 2's inbox).
This file change happened from SM 2.0 to SM 2.1, but also applied
through to SM 2.6, so that explains the steps you have had to take!
If you search you hard drive, you should find that you still have your
SM 1 profile files and a separate set of SM 2 profile files.
Glad it all worked out for you!
