Don't you have SM set to block cookies from "google.com"? I yes, I think
you can override for maps.google.com if you set something explicit (not

Believe it or not (this is really counterintuitive), yes and no. I had google.com set to block cookies and www.google.com set to allow session cookies. Once I changed google.com to allow session cookies, maps.google.com also started allowing them, too.

It's really frustrating and confusing that the user cannot change the pref for the subdomain quickly and easily without going through all this.

And the feedback throughout this area of the program -- no audio clunk or beep, no error message, just silent disobedience -- is really inadequate. Even when the program heeds my command, there's no audio or visual acknowledgement. So obedience and disobedience look and sound the same.
