No, that's for web pages. What Desiree needs is at Edit/Preferences/Mail
& Newsgroups/Message Display/Plain text messages/Color. That won't
affect incoming HTML mails, though (unless you change View/Message Body
As, in which case there will probably no quote highlighting at all for
HTML mails).

Also, how do I change the blue (any color would be preferable to
the jarringly harsh blue hi-lite color) when I click my mouse on a
thread title? Again, any color but the blue would be acceptable
but I would prefer to be able to choose the color.

Unfortunately there's not built-in UI to change these. You'd need to
deal with CSS for that (userChrome.css in your profile, or the Stylish
add-on). Maybe the following page (which is for TB, but will probably
apply to SM, too) helps:

<http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=733165>

If you change userChrome.css, you need to restart SM to see changes. If
you use Stylish, reopening the MailNews window after changes suffices.

I have Plain text color as black. But that is for incoming messages. Not for reply with quote. There is no setting for that. I've been through all this with TB years ago. I could not believe the arrogance that everyone LOVES a garish blue color thus no way to change it except in a very complicated manner.

That Mozillazine thread was way over my head.

I may very well exercise my downgrade rights to Win 7 Pro or just return this computer. The one thing I cannot get used to in Win 8 is messing with my colors and my chosen font (I cannot believe that Microsoft forces one in Win 8 to make a bunch of Registry changes as the ONLY method of changing that horrible to read Segue Windows font to Verdana)! And now I learn all human beings are supposed to love garish blue in SM mail and STILL that way in Thunderbird after all these years. Wow. Everyone is supposed to be a cookie cutter human being if they use Mozilla products and want any color than garish blue which really hurts my eyes!

Is there an Accessibility setting to change the color? There should be as that garish blue is about as unfriendly to aging eyes as you could possibly get. It really hurts to look at that color just like I couldn't read anything on my screen with that horrible Microsoft Segue font that can only be changed in the Registry on Win 8! Both are insane. Funny, a lot of what folks are screaming about in Win 8 is not bad at all...but something as basic as colors ...well, that is a deal breaker. If I downgrade to Win 7 Pro, I have OE back to use and I love OE. Problem is I have no disks....so I can't downgrade until Dell sends the disks.

In the meantime, I guess I have to look for a third party mail client that doesn't think the entire world loves garish blue fonts! It is a shame because I like SM mail except for this one thing that is a deal breaker like it was for TB years ago about the time of that thread you referenced at Mozillazine.
