We ship some default search engines and they are installed in the seamonkey/searchplugins/ directory. In addition users can install search plugins in their profile/searchplugins/ directory by simply going to (say) mycroft.mozdev.org. and installing a search plugin from there. Thirdly search plugins can be delivered as part of an extension in the XPI's searchplugins/ directory. On some Operating Systems, there is a system global location for installing search plugins. Please consult your OS manual on this.
