It is very normal to include the account mail address when in a
newsgroup account, and it is also reasonable that you cannot change that
address field.

When you open an e-mail account, and have several available mail
accounts, you cna compose a new message, or reply to an existing
message, and change the sent mail address to one of the other account
addresses. But not when working in a newsgroup account.

If while in a newsgroup, I click Compose, a compose window opens, and is
pre-addressed to that newsgroup. But, I can change the address to "To",
and then the mail address book is active. Does that differ with what you
said above?

Anyway, I almost did it again. If I open Compose while in an email
account, and forget to address it, it is fail-safe; it goes nowhere. Do
that in a newsgroup account, and it goes somewhere, but not necessarily
where I want it to go. It seems that the system is trying to "help" me
by inserting the newsgroup address, but I would rather it didn't.

Ray,

What I am trying to explain is as follows.
If you open your Mail and newsgroups application from SeaMonkey, and you click on a newsgroup account to read your postings, and then reply or compose a new message SM is supposed to fill in the newsgroup address in the To: field. SeaMonkey is supposed to insert the To:, or Reply: address because it is assumed you will be sending a message to that newsgroup account.

On the other hand, if you have several e-mail accounts, and you click on one account to read your messages, and then decide to compose a new message, SM has no idea to whom you wish to send the message to; so it leaves the To: field empty.

That is normal safe behavior.

The message in the newsgroup goes somewhere, back to the newsgroup server for deployment to all other newsgroup members.
