I seem to be having some sort of problem since I installed what I
think is the latest version of Shockwave. I get a large number of
windows asking me if I want to stop a script and very often clicking
once is not enough.

I also got this today from weather.com,

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped
responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see
if the script will complete.

Script:
http://js.moatads.com/weather6943544254/moatad.js#moatClientLevel1=16950737&moatClientLevel2=96588377&moatClientLevel3=57859937&moatClientLevel4=14744991857&moatClientSlicer1=25572857&moatClientSlicer2=25640417:35";

Now when Shockwave crashes it asks me if I want to reload the page
instead of sending them a message.
...

I'd suggest you install and run AdBlocker Plus so you won't have to deal with advertisers' scripts at all. They can be buggy as all get out, but if you don't load and run them you don't have to care.

I just loaded weather.com and saw no ads and no error messages.

Shockwave Flash 11.8. r800 (11.8.800.94)
Shockwave for Director 12.0.2.122

For that matter, I also tested by disabling ABP and reloading the page, then browsed around and watched a couple of vids (muting the ads), and still had no problems. So recent versions of SW can work.
