Not my SM 2.23a1 Linux x86_64. Starting SM as browser after sudo /etc/init.d/net.ppp0 stop shows no visible delay. Opening MailNews shows popup windows for the news servers lamenting that no connection could be established. Rob, did you try with a new profile? A minimal configured one?
