I have done further testing with the firewall disabled. With an account that has 3 IMAP mail accounts, when starting seamonkey -mail and tracing network activity I see the program connect the 3 mail accounts briefly during the long startup time, and there is no other network activity. So it definately is not a "phone home" problem. It appears each IMAP account is opened, the server accessed, and then the program spends a lot of time (i.e. a lot more than old versions) processing the folders and maybe the .msf files. When that is all done, it displays the message list of the first account and the start page of the mail. The CPU is not heavily loaded during that processing, and neither is the network.
