That seems to provide the same information as the add-on "Edit saved
passwords", and without having to "install" anything.

You're not intstalling anything, it's a link that invokes the old-style
password manager. No installation, no looking for a file in the
profile, just click that link. I've got it saved as a bookmark so it's
easy to get to.
