Occasionally I receive an email from someone I know. Usually it just says: from

But occasionally, from the same exact person/email address, it says: from
<[email protected]>

Why is it sometimes enclosed in greater than/less than and other times it isn't?

The only time I've seen that is when I've sent a mail via webview instead of via the
SeaMonkey email client.

A lot less scary than the occasional mails I get with no subject, no sender, nothing
in the body and when I look at the source there's nothing there either, no
headers,
no content in the body. These mails are always dated 1.1.1970. I receive in
plain
text only so anyone sending in Base 64 or similar without a text option shows
as a
blank mail to me but the content and headers are there when I look at the
source.
