I usually use the Up/DownArrow keys when I want to select (highlight) an 
item in the history dropdown. But mouse-without-click and mousewheel also 
highlights items prior to action. This only works if one is not completely 
married to the mouse.

No, you would need to actually *execute a click* on the entry as the 
initial piece of a click-and-drag.
