notes and who are not members of support fora ?  This will lead to
an infinite regression, so may I suggest that we just agree that
the vast majority of users appear to manage quite well without
reading release notes, using support fora, or any other alleged
/sine qua non/ for the successful deployment of computer software ?

Years ago release notes were there to inform you what's new in the new release - added functionalities, bugfixes. Nowadays release notes are there to tell you what is new in the new release in terms what you shouldn't expect to work anymore... ;-)
