Best to just avoid such web sites to begin with.
It doesn't solve the problem anyway. Even with auto refresh disabled,
and the warning sitting at the top of the screen, the HTTP requests
continue regardless. You can confirm this by turning on FireBug after
visiting the page; you see constant new requests in the "network" tab.
It's OK to say "avoid" sites like this, but I'd say there are more since
the start of 2014 (lots of AJAX). When SeaMonkey first came out, it was
good at ignoring this type of thing (the pop-up blocker etc), and pages
were fast to load, but it seems less effective now.
That's why we need to stop button to mean STOP!
