"You dream .... ALT is used to specify by the next letter the part of the
menu you want to be opened.
If you kill the menu:
1. You loose this possibility.
2. You will come here complaining : I have hidden the menu bar, and i don't
remember the magic key to restore it.

Anyway i use extensively the menu bar containing useful actions - per
exemple - How to you acces the "Tools" if it dissappear ? And you don't
remembre where it was ?"

If you keep Alt pressed the menubar will show. Try it on firefox.
I wouldn't be "killing" the menu. I'd be hiding it, so I wouldn't lose it
and since I know how bot show it back, I'd have to reason to come back
complaining. I'd be happy instead.
After you bring back the menubar by pressing Alt you can use the mouse to
select the different submenus and options, so you don't need to remember
anything apart from Alt.
