I had other problems with 2.29.x in Windows (XP Pro SP3 and 64-bit 7 EE SP1) like history corruptions, addressbooks not sorting, etc. However, your issues with high CPU and memory usages, I always had that in all versions. Mozilla web browsers are hogs. :(
