at startup? it's already off
There's no mail.server.server<X>.check_new_mail setting but what does
that do?
Same as the UI setting I mentioned, Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings | Account Name | Server Settings
[ ] Check for new messages every nn minutes
Different number for each account. Numbers survive deletion of account,
so I have 1, 3, 5, 6 (2 and 4 no longer exist).
