I didn't pull the modifications out of no where. When investigating
SeaMonkey as a possible replacement for Firefox in our lightweight OS I
read in many different forums, articles and such the most common
complaints of the suite. None of which were so much that SeaMonkey
wasn't a capable browser, most issues were about the relatively dated
look, some common features in firefox that were missing in SeaMonkey and
screenspace was probably the biggest gripe considering all the filemenu,
toolbars and inclusion of the statusbar as well. This is what I based a
majority of the modifications off of, because I wanted it to be
successful in our Distribution. I didn't want people to start it up only
to remove it in a couple minutes and install their regular browsers.
That is interesting considering this LXLE SeaMonkey looks a lot like
Firefox. It might be true then that the majority of people actually like
the new Firefox interface and it is only us - a handful of SeaMonkey
users - who prefer the more traditional look. I would have thought that
things like moving the reload button to the right, hiding the forward
button, hamburger menu instead of the regular top level menu were
causing usability problems. But maybe many people like that kind of
interface, or at least don't mind. At least the status bar is still
there! :)
However, I agree the default SM theme is not pretty. I myself am using
*Classic Firefox theme for SeaMonkey* combined with *Brushed Metal from
_ntpl_ with contrast* light theme on top and it looks really good -
except I would still like to make a few elements more compact, like the
status bar or tabs.
Different themes can make tabs and toolbars more compact. I also use
the Classic Firefox theme for SeaMonkey sometimes, but I grafted the
colour scheme from the Halloween theme for Firefox into it, and that
made it look a lot nicer.
