I have a few e-mail contacts whose e-mail addresses, with commas, like
"lastname, firstname" in their names in their saved e-mails. When I
right click on their "lastname, firstname
<[email protected]>" (without quotation marks) to
"compose mail to" a brand new e-mail, I see two/2 To: addresses
showing:
To: Lastname <>
To: Firstname <[email protected]>
Is this a minor and annoying known issue?
To my knowledge, commas are not permitted in email addresses. They are,
however, used to *separate* multiple addresses in one string. Ex:
To: [email protected],[email protected],[email protected]
But these commas were NOT in their addresses. They were in before the
address like in my "lastname, firstname
[email protected]>" example. :/
"Smith, George" is not an email address. You've something else amiss.
Check your address book for misplaced parts/fields.
Beauregard, I've also received e-mails for people who are not in my
e-mail addressbook, but when I reply, the address data is collected and
put in my addressbook, including the personal name.
In this case, the entry in the SeaMonkey Addressbook will list the first
word (outside the < >'s) in the "First:" field and the second word in
the "Last:" field, so I then have to manually swap them around using
"Cut & Paste"
If you open your addressbook, select a particular entry and double click
on it, you will see the data fields, First: Last: Display:, etc, listed.
I suspect that is I compose an e-mail to you with the address field as ....
Beauregard Shagnasty <[email protected]>
and I sent the e-mail, I would, automatically, gain an entry in my
addressbook which would contain that data in the appropriate fields, but
because some software store data as "Lastname, Firstname", SeaMonkey
(and, I guess, TB) harvest the data backwards.
