Once you create the address book list, the hard work just begins if you
are trying to send to a large number of recipients. If your address book
from Excel exceeds 100-150 and you want to send an email to everyone on
the list, the chances are that your ISP will reject your send list as
too long. For example, if you have a large number, say 1000, you will
have to break it up into about 10 sends.

For anything over 100 of the 5000 high school alumni that I try to reach
with email, I upload my Excel list to a bulk email mailer like
MailChimp, SendBlaster, etc. and use their free service to send the
email and their reporting system to tell me how many opened the email
(best I can do is 60%)
