Whilst I was out on a Hash run last night, I was thinking about this,
and had convinced myself that I was wrong, but having just been to
View->Sort by and selected "Descending" and I saw the threads pane
reverse ... so I was right, originally.
Is it possible that as I had a message in the thread selected when I did
the View->Sort by->Descending, it operated on the Threads Pane, but if I
tried whilst having something in the Accounts Pane selected (and not
having selected a message in the Threads Pane), it might reverse the
Accounts Pane?? Something to test, maybe!!
Nup!! No change.
After posting my reply to myself, I went a read the moz.gen group, then,
selecting this server, before I selected the message I'm replying to,
i.e. I'd selected this group but not a message with-in this group, I did
View->Sort by->Descending ..... and the threads showing in the Message
Pane reversed, but no change in the Accounts Pane!!
So I was right! Yeah!!
OK, I misread your query.
To change the sort order of the accounts and folders, click "Name" at
the top of the folder column. On my machine, it's a three-way toggle:
1) normal order (accounts listed in order of creation, folders in
alphabetical order except that SM-created folders such as Inbox, Sent,
Junk, Trash, Unsent Messages are listed above user-created folders);
2) reverse order (accounts listed in reverse order of creation, folders
in reverse alphabetical order except as noted above);
3) same as 2), but Inbox of primary account is moved to top of its list.
You can also fiddle with the sort order of accounts by fiddling with the
numbering in about:config; instructions for that have been posted here
many times.
