Often either bad flash file on server or just typical plain flakiness of
flash.

after 10 seconds or so, it would load, but put me back to email, rather
than the website

Back to email? Are you trying to play a flash video in an email?

Don't know about Jonathan, bit quite often, I'll click a web link in an
e-mail/newsgroup post, bring up the Browser screen, system freeze for up
to 30 secs, and go then it will switch back to the e-mail/newsgroup
screen and I have to click on the little Browser Icon in the bottom left
of screen (or Win 7 task bar) to get to the Browser Screen to see the
Web page I had just downloaded.

Then I would say the link is to a page with a bad flash video that crashes the plugin container fails taking the browser window instance with it.

Since SeaMonkey has an email client embedded and you had an email window instance running, it is not so much going back to email but just the browser instance closing. If the link was a saved shortcut on the desktop, and you had no email client window open, I would guess that the browser window would fail as before but a new email client window would not be created. I think you will find it is just bad flash not a bug in SeaMonkey.
