I'd say it's because you're on XP (dead OS). have you tried one of the
2.44 contrib builds from here:
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-windows32/

Give it a shot. Should run better for you than 2.40. I'd also
recommend doing the POS2009 hack if you insist on running XP.
