I've had no issues with Adrian's builds on linux. No issues with my
prefs.js or any other files/messages being lost when going from 2.40 to
2.46. In fact, I sometimes switch between the two on the same machine
and profile. Only issue of course is that you will most likely have to
update your addons/extensions/plugins. Where are you
installing/extracting Adrian's build? I typically only run my from
~/home/<user>/seamonkey/seamonkey without issue.

This reply is from Ubuntuzilla's 2.40

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/43.0 SeaMonkey/2.40
Build identifier: 20160118183220

I'll close down SM 2.40 and reply again in Adrian's 2.46 in a moment.
