I don't use anything newer because I cannot located anything newer that is built
with GTK2, and GTK3 builds suffer this usability/accessibility bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1269274

Is there something I need to install or enable to permit web page SVG images to
display? It's very annoying, as these non-displayed images are typically next or
OK or submit or menu option link buttons in odd locations on the pages that when
hovered produce nothing on the status bar to indicate an expected destination or
result.

Felix, I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you might
try 2.47 from Adrian Kalla:
<https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-linux64/>
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/50.0 SeaMonkey/2.47
Build identifier: 20161220192822

Here is a screenshot of my SeaMonkey w/SVG image + Nemo file manager
directory listing:
<https://s29.postimg.org/vz2cyyxrr/Screenshot_from_2017_01_11_17_53_10.png>

The build currently there is this:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 SeaMonkey/2.47; Build ID: 20161220192822

It's the middle one in this screenshot of FF17 above and SM 2.40 below:
http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/mozgtk3-b1269274-143.jpg
which is a demonstration of:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1269274

Maybe 2.47 solves the SVG problem, but bug 1269274 is nasty unacceptable UI.
