Hello and maybe someone has encountered this challenge and assist...
As some may be aware, VZ is no longer doing email service and has
parsed it out to AOL to continue using verizon.net account OR one can
use any other free mail service of their choice..
I had chosen to keep my 15 year old email moniker and ported it over
to AOL, as such, since doing that I can not send any emails after
re-configuring the SMTP settings as indicated in the help section at
AOL mail...
You migrated your Verizon email account over to AOL as per the
instructions, changed your password, received the Verification code
and
entered it in the proper location, and now you can't seend your
verizon.net email?
<snip>
I get an alternating "Login To Server Timed Out..." or "Login To
Server Failed"
SMTP.aol.com
port: 465
Authentication: Normal
Security: SSL/TLS
I have no issues with receiving emails, only sending. I can access to
send and receive via the web portal, just not SM.
What are your receiving server settings?
All I needed to do was change the password for my Verizon account
after
the migration.
If you are sending verizon.net email, you need the smtp.verizon.net,
port 465, normal password server setting for outgoing mail.
My migration was very smooth, except they keep putting good
messages in
the Spam folder. Sucks to have to check web mail everyday.
Walt - Thank you for your response. My settings are as follows:
Server Name - pop.aol.com
Port - 995
User Name - [email protected]
Connection Security - SSL/TLS
Authentication - Normal Password
Server Name - smtp.aol.com
Port - 587
User Name - [email protected]
Authentication - Normal password
Connection - SSL/TLS
The thing I like about AOL, is that I do get less spam in the inbox,
even though I have to check the website to see which good mail got
caught up in the web, as it were.
Thank you again for your input and assistance in this frustration.

So, you migrated and have your server setting wrong, or didn't
migrate and I have no clue how to help.
I'll respond as if you migrated your Verizon account to AOL.
The server settings should be;
Server Name - pop.verizon.net
Port - 995
Username - XXXXX (No @verizon.net)
Authentication - Normal Password
Connection - SSL/TLS
Server Name - smtp.verizon.net
Port - 465
Username - XXXXX (No @verizon.net)
Authentication - Normal Password
Connection - SSL/TLS
Thank you Walt and Arnie,
I was able to create the settings required to access email via SM with
your input and that of VZ's after complaining, someone helped with it.
My error was in the username, it needs to be [email protected]
everywhere for aol.com to recognize me.
Thank you again,
bo1953

This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software.
https://www.avast.com/antivirus
1. Your email signature is incorrect -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block> - it should be two dashes
and a space, a hard return, and your (brief) sig.
2. We don't care if your email was checked by Avast. Turn the
notification off. It's just silly and an ad for Avast.
Ed - I will endeavour to turn off the avast signature.
Thank you.
