I use Sea Monkey for my mail...and have times I have used Thunderbird
for my mail at times in order to learn this software.  What specifically
do I need to do to make the changes they are requesting?

Any help sent my way will be greatly appreciated.

In the past, AOL required that users install AOL's own E-mail
application because AOL's servers did not comply with either IMAP or
POP3/SMTP.  This might no longer be the case.  I am not familiar with
IMAP setups.  If you are attempting to use POP3/SMTP, however, you might
try the following:

1.  Open the Account Settings window.  On the Thunderbird menu bar, that
is [Tools > Account Settings].  On the SeaMonkey menu bar, that is
[Window > Mail & Newsgroups] and then [Edit > Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings].

2.  On the left side of the Account Settings window, select the mail
account in question.  If the account is collapsed, expand it.  (In
Thunderbird, that involves selecting the > to make it a v.)

3.  Select Server Settings.

4.  On the Server Settings pane, for "Connection security" (under
Security Settings), select SSL/TLS from the selection list.

5.  Go to the bottom of the left side of the Account Settings window.
(This might require scrolling down.)  Select Outgoing Server (SMTP).

6.  In the window that lists your E-mail accounts, select the mail
account in question and then select the Edit button.

7.  In the SMTP Server window, for "Connection security" (under Security
and Authentication), select SSL/TLS from the selection list.

8.  Select the OK buttons to close all the setup windows.

If you still have a problem receiving (steps 2-4) or sending (steps 5-7)
E-mail, try STARTTLS in place of SSL/TLS.  I have one E-mail account
where sending is STARTTLS but receiving is SSL/TLS.  Thus, you should
change only the setting for the one direction that remains a problem.

Tanks David for coming to my rescue. I checked all of the settings included in your message and I am not able to send a test message to myself..I get a Log in screen with the statement
smtp.verizon.net failed.
