Is there a setting in about:config I can set to put automatic downloads URLs in
the manager even though I've aborted them? Some source pages don't put the
backup
source URL where it's discoverable. I don't download anything with a browser. I
use a downloader, usually wget, which allows me instant and easy selection of
download location, saved filename editing, and preservation of the source file's
timestamp, not to mention resume after interrupt.

At the far right of the Download Manager window in the same line as Name
and just under the Clear List button, you should see a strange icon.
Select that icon. In the resulting pull-down menu, select Source to
place a checkmark there.

That's already there. The problem is nothing shows up in the download manager
unless a download is allowed to begin, which means if I want access to the URL I
have to waste my time finding a partial download and deleting it, or nothing at
all ever shows up on the window.

I'd go further, Felix. Several downloads I do, I don't get the option of where the downloaded file is saved (I think my Win7 just uses the last place I saved something to!), nor do I get a listing in the Download Manager screen.

It just happens! And I have to go looking for the downloaded file!!
