I have never "installed" SM, FF, TB, PM. I unzip, create a shortcut
with a -Profilemanager switch, and run. And I always keep multiple
versions of SM. I am currently maintaining four desktops and two
laptops all using SM. When I set up a new machine I just copy SM and
it's data from an existing machine. I have never encountered this
situation before.
The current laptop has Windows Defender. I allow it to update. I do
not understand it and have never tried to effect it.
What is "MSE"
The laptop is still at fresh install. There have been no updates or
add-ons. "All programs" does not show anything that seems to be
security related. Isn't Windows Defender an update?
The machines are the same model. SM app and profiles are copies from
the original machine.
Interesting political ramifications; Google.Com is untrusted. Bing.Com
is OK. As I said before, SM allows me to create exceptions for some
addresses. That is allowed for Google. Bing is the first address that
I tried that opened without a challenge.

Reinstall SeaMonkey. It adds information to the registry and also allows
setting it up as a default app for file associations. If you don't use
MSE or Windows Defender you might need to adjust your virus scanner.

I copy apps and data both to create new machines and as a back up system.
I have a primary laptop that has been in service for several years.
It has two Win 7 partitions. Both partitions have accumulated so much
junk that they are about unusable. So I have configured the HDDs on
an identical laptop and am creating it fresh using the existing unit
as a model and using it's files.
I have copied SM from and to the APPS partitions, and it's profiles,
and email from and to the data partitions. But I apparently missed
some security data.
On the new unit every site I have tried to access has been deemed
"Untrusted". For one forum and Google I was allowed to set an
exception. Amazon, Ebay, and PayPal I am not allowed to set an
exception and not allowed to access them.
Suggestions?
