I reinstalled 2.53.1 from scratch but, instead of trying a new test profile, I just started SM with add-ons disabled. The Window menu item worked as expected where each time you click it the drop-down appears. I then restarted SM normally (i.e add-ons enabled) and it also worked as normal.
