An Addendum:

When I use the command line fclient I do not get the errors, but
still cannot find any sites.

For instance:

fclient get SSK%40npfV5XQijFkF6sXZvuO0o~kG4wEPAgM/homepage// --logLevel debug
State PREPARED reached.
State REQUESTING reached.
Data Not found
State FAILED reached.
Request failed.

Also I notice that nothing under /var/lib/freenet-unstable/stats is
getting updated.

I am not using squid or junkbuster anymore as I thought there might
     be a conflict there.
