I don't wish to start a language war but why does everyone only ever consider C++ as an alternative to Java? The nearest compiled langauge to Java is surely Ada95 for which there is a GNU implementation for nearly as many platforms as there is for Java. C++ has no native thread support so would, IMHO, be a particularly poor choice to replace Java as an implementation language.
Is there any technical reason why one could not implement a Freenet node in a different language (Ada95)? Are there or have there been any attempts at something like this? The biggest hurdle would seem to me to be the lack of Freenet documentation.
