I don't wish to start a language war but why does everyone only ever consider 
C++ as an alternative to Java?  The nearest compiled langauge to Java is 
surely Ada95 for which there is a GNU implementation for nearly as many 
platforms as there is for Java.  C++ has no native thread support so would, 
IMHO, be a particularly poor choice to replace Java as an implementation 
language.

Is there any technical reason why one could not implement a Freenet node in a 
different language (Ada95)?  Are there or have there been any attempts at 
something like this?  The biggest hurdle would seem to me to be the lack of 
Freenet documentation.
