I'm having trouble upgrading my java as it does not appear in my
system update menu after I look for updates.
The java website tells me I must update directly from the Mac system.

Apple is always slow to update Java. :( It's a recurring theme.

The closest thing I can find for you is http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/javaformacosx105update5.html but it looks like it requires OS X 10.5.8 ??

I don't have a Mac myself, but some folks on this mailing list do. Perhaps one of them can offer additional help.

Hi,
I sometimes have the feeling that Freenet is not always able to localize the java folders on mac, since the machines are using java natively and so, logically updated whenever possible... I myself, have had sometime this problem of Freenet saying I had to update when a visit to java site said I was using the latest of java... Maybe this comes from the fact that, even when updating, Apple (and maybe all Unixes) keeps the old 1.4 version available for some uses when needed (that can't be done with 1.6). Anyway, if you want to verify "de visu" what is your version of java, it is placed there :

Hard disc/system/library/Framework/JavaVN.framework/Versions/ (generally you have there the latest but also oldest versions, or aliasses to it)

There is generally other folders too, in many places including quite few invisible (you can see them with SHIF ShowHideInvisibleFiles), for instance, at usr/bin, that is used by some apps like Stealthnet... I'm not sure for Freenet since I didn't had to put my hands in the grease to install it, and it did it by itself and the installer...

As for the plugin unable to be downloaded from Freenet, I had the same problem and same message, but, why don't you use your normal browser (but with Tor or Jap-jondo) to fetch it "directly" but also anonymously from Freenet ? Another thing: Did you remember to allow freenet going out with LittleSnitch ? (java.freenet.node.NodeStarter)
