Laura,
I had some success upgrading from 1.00 to 1.02, which I did primarily as
practice with ebase and Filemaker. It is a bit tricky, though, so I
don't exactly recommend it, particularly if you have a lot of customized
fields that need importing. I DEFINITELY don't recommend transferring
the data by hand (if you mean re-entering it)!!!!!
I'd second Clif's recommendation of sticking with 1.00. There really
aren't many new "features" in 1.02 or 1.03 (the only one I find
especially useful is the "Custom Find Screen" which allows you to save
complex find requests as a button, a feature you could recreate
relatively easily anyway), and you can easily fix any bugs by checking
out the Bug Fix page on the ebase website. I'd wait for V2 and upgrade
to that if it looks appropriate.
It seems like the bigger issue for you is speed. In that case, I'd
continue to work on transferring the files to the PC and using v.1.00
there. I can't recall what your problems in transferring the files was
(it's usually as simple as copying the files from one computer to the
other-something I've done many times without a hitch), so if you want to
contact me directly, check my contact info below and I'll think some
more about it.
