To whom it may concern,
I have a question regarding the recent import of data into our new e-base program. It seems that all the files
are listed as last name first.
Do you mean "fields" not "files"? That is, each file (names_.102, for example) has records for all the folks you expect, but in each record you are seeing the last name where the first name belongs and vice versa.
Is there a way of correcting this without going back and re-importing all the data?
If that's the case, the data is in the file, just in the wrong
place. This can be corrected with three uses of the FileMaker Replace
command. It will need FileMaker, though, not just the runtime.
- Back up your files in case something goes awry.
- Create a new temporary field
- Use FileMaker's Replace command to copy the first name into
the new field in all records
- Use it again to copy the last name into the first name field
(overwriting the existing first name data)
- Use it again to copy the temporary field into the first name
field
