I am using ebase 1.02 with FileMaker 5.
My dupe function does not seem to work consistently. Yesterday I imported some new records to the database, and checked them against the current ebase files for dupes before uploading. It usually finds some. I often do all the dupe checks (tight, loose, email, etc.) just to be sure.
After integrating the new records, and updating all find fields (both replace current, and replace all), two dupe records were still never marked as dupes. One had the same exact first and last name, the other had the same last name, but is "Daniel" v. "Dan." When I ran a dupe check under the Admin tab, these two records were still not found as being duplicates. These are two names that I recognized as already being in the database. But out of 6,000 records, I wonder how many others are getting missed?
The dupe check uses more than names. The tight criterion uses
last name, part of the first name, the number part of the address,
and zip code, for example All these pieces need to be the same to
mark the record.
When I run a find for these particular last names, the dupe records are found, but not marked as dupes. Yet many other records in the database are marked with the "Y" for dupe, when it is only the last names that match.
Records are marked with a "Y" based on the loose dupe
match, which uses only the last name, the number part of the address,
and the zip.
This is an important function, as my boss often gives me lists to upload that are very similar, and I don't want to keep entering the same people.
It's not foolproof - typos, odd spaces and the like can still
cause anomalies, but using all these pieces makes for a pretty good
procedure.
Does this have to do at all with some of the bug fixes?
