I've only done queries inside ebase to external SQL data sources. Is the
error message occurring while attempting a query built in Access and pointed
to names_ as a data source?

You successfully built a prototype with a test database. Did you try with a
fresh copy of ebase (with only one record)?

Try searching the Techinfo library at www.filemaker.com.

Assuming you get this to work, FM should suppport full SQL syntax, i.e
SELECT (FIELDNAME) FROM (TABLENAME) WHERE (EVALUATION) etc.
