Thanks for the tip.  Zip disk isn't an attractive
option for my setup here... but I just tried
transferring the files from PC to Mac over a network
via FTP (in binary mode).  I got the same error again
about how the files didn't belong to the solution. 
(So they must belong to the problem, right? :-)

I should mention that I'm using the stand-alone ebase,
not FileMaker.  Is the stand-alone version pickier
than FileMaker about which files it will use?
