Postnet codes are reliable. Post offices sometimes are not :-).
Remember, ebase v1 was developed three years ago, and we tested the Postnet
system in Montana. Mind you there was only one post office that knew the
nouns and verbs we were using, and suffice it to say that our experience was
not optimal. I think it was operator error, but it could have been their
optical reader.
Of course, a lot has changed in the meantime. Barcodes -- which is all
Postnet codes really are -- have become even more ubiquitous. (Did you get a
CueCat about thee months ago? Did you use it?) The solution that I checked
out did not even require you to install fonts. So we might be able to look
at this issue again in v2, but probably as an add on module.
