Eric,

There is, in my opinion, a huge potential benefit from keeping your old
backups (and not over-writing them).  Crashes and subsequent data loss,
inadvertent deletions (as well as intentional deletions for which you
need to go back and get old data), etc. make it well worth having a
history of your database.

Given that CDs will hold many copies of most people's databases, and
given the cost (and size) of CDs, keeping a history of the database on
CDs would not seem problematic.  Given the potential benefits, why
bother re-writing?
