My ongoing problems have been centered around moving our database from
an old Mac to a newer PC both with different versions of Ebase and FMP.
Luckily we haven't been using most of the features of Ebase yet.
Basically the Names and the Payments files.

I can't remember who it was that suggested I run the "Check for Related
Records Script", but I thank you, it worked!

I then was able to fix my problems with phone numbers with hyphens and
the zip codes in wrong field by reimporting the information. Don't
remember what worked but I had tried being more careful with the import
order and importing in different file formats.

If someone could help with these next problems, I'd appreciate it!

1. PROBLEM importing Payments: would not allow me to choose Record # in
the destination file. And when importing, the imported fields ended up
in the wrong fields in the destination file. Solved by adding all 723
payments by hand.

2. PROBLEM importing payments from ebase on office PC to home PC (same
versions). Still won't let me choose record number in destination file.
So, I chose "Legacy ID" instead, in the destination file which allowed
me to transfer record numbers and names into the payment records but
with different record numbers. I then went to "Fix Codes", Replace All
with Legacy Source Codes", wondering if that would update the record
numbers. When I went to the names file, I found all record numbers
changed to increments of 1 starting with number 2 (which was the same in
the original file) so record numbers more closely match number of
records in file except they are off by one digit. I found that the

QUESTION: The original file's record numbers reflected the records that
were deleted, so the record number was up to over 7600 for 6706 total
records. Is there any reason not to make the record numbers consecutive
as has happened now on my home PC? And if not, how can I do it on my
office PC?

QUESTION: What did I do wrong in importing payment records from the
office PC to my home PC? (See problem #'s 1 and 2 above.) If the
destination file while importing doesn't allow me to choose the "Record
#" field, nor any name fields, what unique field can I import from to
allow the destination file to know what payment records go with what
name records?

QUESTION: I want to be able to take home the updated Ebase files from
the office, put them on my PC to work on them and then update the office
Ebase the next day.

Using a Zip drive: The Mac in the office has a Zip but I am waiting for
a scsi adapter to be installed onto our office PC so I can use it on
both.

QUESTION: Wouldn't using the Zip (or a CD-RW which I don't have right
now) make it much simpler? I have been using the Zip on the Mac for
backing up which has come in very handy the several times I have had to
deal with damaged files, simply replacing the damaged file with the good
backup from the zip. I am assuming I can do the same in order to
transfer the updated file to whatever computer I'm working on, i.e.
replacing the older Names file with the updated Names file?

Thanks for your help!
