The ebase import process assumes that your original data will get
re-numbered when it gets dumped into ebase, since there is no reason
to assume that your original data will be compatible with the numbers
in ebase (unique, primarily). So your source file record number gets
put into Legacy ID and ebase re-assigns numbers based on the Legacy
ID in the names file.
It looks to me as if your questions revolve around transferring data
from one copy of ebase to another. It would be much easier, as you
suggest below, to make copies of the entire file set onto a removable
disk and take that to the other computer. Mac and PC FileMaker use
the same file format so this would work just as well between a Mac
and Windows machine (assuming you use a PC-formatted disk) as it
would between two similar machines.
