Dave Shaw has offered two very good approaches, and the second one
seems to be the simplest of the two.

Another way would be to add one step to the selection process and do
the search twice. The extra step would be to find half the names by
using a range--such as last names beginning with A thru L, and last
names beginning with M thru Z. You could do the same thing using
other fields such as record number, zip code, and so on.
