Steve,
You don't need to modify ebase/filemaker to auto-enter. It is already
set-up to auto-enter town name, state and anything else you want it to
once you enter the zip code on the Data Entry screen and tab out of that
field. To make it work, you need to "populate" your zip_.102 file (one
of ebase's 29 files) with zip codes and corresponding town, state, etc.
You can add area code info, legislative district info and anything else
that has a relatively constant and unique association with zip codes.
Just add that info into the each record associated with a particular zip
code in the Zip_.102 file. You could manually enter that data, but
better to import a file like the one referenced by Alison into that
file. Just do the import into the Zip_.102 file following the Filemaker
import instructions and being careful to map fields properly. You may
need to create some new fields in the Zip_.102 file to hold the
additional data.
Just beware that as zip codes change (or area codes, legislative
districts, etc.), your Zip_.102 file will continue to auto-enter the old
(wrong) data until you update it by importing the new data. Also, if
you have one zip code that applies to several town names, you may get
the wrong town name when ebase/filemaker auto enters. While the Post
Office probably won't care about the wrong town name, your members
might.
