Speaking from experience I cannot recommend strongly enough that you document *all* of the customizations you make in ebase.  I would say this even if ebase was never going to be updated again, or if you had written the code for FileMaker yourself.  Here's why:

1) you'll forget.  Now, I'm probably overly forgetful, but everyone forgets.  And ebase is really complicated on the inside - lots o' relations.
2) one day you won't be there.  You'll be on vacation and things will fall apart.  Or you'll retire.  Then the organization has a problem becuase the only place where the changes are documented is your brain.
3) It makes tech support easier.  Say one day you just get stuck and need help.  Or you decide to make some more major modifications to ebase and use a consultant.  Having that documentation will really help the outside person, saving you time and money.

I know it's a pain, but there will come the day when it saves you, and then it will all feel worth it!

Subject: [support] Likely ebase upgrades, implementing in my 'version' of ebase

We've just adopted ebase and I am planning to make a number of changes. To document them all in detail feels like a big task. What plans or revisions are likely to happen for ebase, how many changes and how difficult would it be for "a filmaker pro" to implement them in my 'version' from ebase's instructions? I certainly understand that I can only expect an educated guess here... Thanks, Jannah Riemer Data Manager Cornucopia Community Advocates Sedona, AZ
